The central component in the selection of a mate lies in the evolutionary need to perpetuate the species. The stronger of the species have always been chosen by members of the opposite sex more for reproductive purposes. Pheromones are chemically secreted molecules that are produced and carried through sense of smell, that causes an incredible sexual response in animals. The belief that it allows the animal to locate a mate they will have the greatest likelihood of producing offspring with a strong immune system. It was previously believed that humans lost the ability to be attracted by pheromones. Recent studies have shown that this may not be the case.
